【Orchestra】Barcelona Symphony Orchestra -the National Orchestra of Catalonia
The Barcelona Symphony Orchestra was established in 1944. Kazusi Ono is the musical director of the orchestra since September 2015. Throughout its 70 years of history, the orchestra has performed with world renowned soloist and has released recordings centered on works of De Falla, Bizet and Rodrigo. Touring is also an important project for the orchestra. The orchestra has performed as a guest in famous theaters in the world such as Carnegie Hall. It has participated in international musical festivals such as the BBC Proms held at the Royal Albert Hall. It regularly plays in opera performances at the Gran Teatro del Liceu. Recent performances include “The Gambler” by Prokofiev, “Daphne” by R. Strauss, “Die Zauberflöte” by Mozart,“Rienzi” by Wagner and “Il tabarro” by Puccini. The orchestra works to promote all genres of music, from classics to contemporary music, specially works of composers from the Catalonia region. Their visit to Japan in 2019 will be the first time in 24years.
