Masako Hayashi graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts, completed its graduate school and the Nikikai Opera Institute program. She was awarded the Gotoh Memorial Cultural Award for Best Newcomer in Opera. She completed the program at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève. She performed as a guest with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Teatro San Carlo of Naples. She has shown great stage presence with her performances in the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation productions of Cosi Fan Tutte as Fiordiligi, La Clemenza di Tito as Vitellia, La Damnation de Faust as Marguerite, the title roles of Die Liebe der Danae and Ariadne auf Naxos, and more recently, the 2017 production of Der Rosenkavalier as the Marschallin, the February 2018 production of Lohengrin as Elsa von Brabant. She also sang Pamina in the New National Theatre, Tokyo production of Die Zauberflöte in October 2018. She is scheduled to perform in the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation production of Der Tempelbrand in February 2019. She resides in Genève. She is a member of the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation.
