【Veit Pogner】KWANGCHUL YOUN
Born and educated in Korea, Kwanchul Youn was an ensemble member of Staatsoper Unter den Linden from 1993 until 2004.
In recent years the much demanded bass sang at all renown opera houses across Europe and overseas, such as Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, the Opéra National de Paris, Bayreuther Festspiele, Salzburger Festspiele and Osterfestspiele Salzburg, and his wide repertory includes operas such as Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, Faust, Les Troyens, Eugen Onegin, Maria Stuarda, Guillaume Tell, Don Carlo, Il Trovatore, Simon Boccanegra, Parsifal, Tristan, Tannhäuser, Der fliegende Holländer, and Lohengrin.
Alongside his opera engagements Kwangchul Youn also performs frequently at concerts with well-known orchestras. He can be heard on recordings such as Bayreuther Festspiele’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Teldec), Croesus (harmonia mundi), Fidelio (Teldec), Le nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni and Tiefland (Arte Nova), as well as Daphne (Decca; nominated for a Grammy as best Opera Production of 2006).
