Makiko Yamashita graduated from the School of Education of Hiroshima University, and completed the graduate school of the Tokyo University of the Arts. She has performed in Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation and New National Theatre, Tokyo opera productions, such as the title role in Giulio Cesare, Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte, Idamante in Idomeneo, Maddalena in Rigoletto, title role in Carmen, Herodias in Salome. Recent performances include the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation production of Tristan und Isolde as Brangäne and Iolanta, conducted by M. Pletnev, earning her high acclaim. She performed Verdi’s Requiem conducted by A. Battistoni and Rossini’s Stabat Mater conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, receiving favorable reviews. She is scheduled to perform the role of Suzuki in the 2019 New National Theatre, Tokyo production of Madama Butterfly. She is a member of the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation.
